Fillings
If your child’s tooth has a small cavity, we can remove the decay and place a filling. A filling is a tooth colored (white) resin material that fills in the hole to restore the tooth back to proper function.
Alternatively, SDF: Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is completed in the office and is an excellent alternative to conventional treatment options when a child is very young or pre-cooperative. SDF is a potent liquid that is painted on the dry tooth and works to halt the decay progress in the presence of good home care. A more permanent treatment option can be completed once the child matures and is more able to tolerate treatment in the office.
If the cavity in your child’s tooth is too large to restore with a filling, a silver crown may be recommended to cover the remaining tooth structure to prevent further breakdown. In the back teeth, the silver crown is used for strength, durability and longevity. In the front teeth, aesthetic white crowns are a possibility.
