Reno Pediatric Dentist Dr. Jacqueline Alford with a happy patient.

Habit Cessation

Sucking on thumbs, fingers, pacifiers and other objects can make a child feel happy and secure, or provide security at difficult periods and may induce sleep.

Prolonged sucking habits while your child is growing can lead to problems with jaw growth and tooth alignment.

If prolonged habits occur, we can discuss multiple approaches to remind your child of their habit, and if these don’t work, we can discuss the use of a mouth appliance.
